Watt calls for Harrison v Arthur

Scottish boxing legend Jim Watt has called for Scott Harrison and Alex Arthur to face each other in the ring.

Harrison vacated his WBO featherweight title after struggling to make the weight for a defence against Nicky Cook in London earlier this month.

Arthur, 28, has vacated his European super featherweight title to concentrate on a world title fight.

"I can't think of a better match involving two Scotsmen," said former world lightweight champion Watt.

"I think (promoter) Frank Warren has already been thinking about making that fight in the last year."

Cambuslang fighter Harrison, 29, was released from a Spanish prison last month following allegations of assault and faces trial in February.

He is believed to be moving up to lightweight for a return to the ring next year.

Harrison's personal problems contrast sharply with Arthur, who became Scotland's first European champion for 11 years in July 2005 when he beat Boris Sinitsin - and has since made three successful defences.

The Edinburgh fighter is rated number three by the WBA and the WBO, number five by the WBC and 13 by the IBF.

"I don't know what's in Scott's mind but the rumours are he is going to box at lightweight," said Watt, speaking at the new home of the St Andrew's Sporting Club in Glasgow.

"Well, Alex is a super featherweight so it wouldn't be a massive jump for him to get up to that.

"Scott hasn't got his title any more but it would still be a massive fight even without a title."

Watt said the bout was a possibility since both boxers had been promoted by Warren.

"I don't know if it will happen straight away but it would be nice to think it might happen in the not-so-distant future," he added.

"It would be a great match and I hope it happens."
