Britons in line for Valuev fight
By Ben Dirs

Talks are under way for WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev to fight the winner of next month's clash between Danny Williams and Matt Skelton.

And promoter Frank Warren has invited the 7ft Russian to London's ExCel Arena on 25 February to watch Williams defend his Commonwealth crown.

"Frank is in negotiations with Valuev's people," said a representative of Warren's Sports Network company.

"Hopefully the winner will get the chance to fight Valuev."

On Monday, Valuev, who is scheduled to make the first defence of his title on 1 April, said he expected to fight either Williams or Skelton next.

"I'll be watching the fight with interest," said Valuev, who outpointed John Ruiz for the title last December. "The winner will be my next opponent."

The "Beast from the East", unbeaten in 43 fights, also said he would like to tempt Britain's former world champion Lennox Lewis out of retirement.

"It would be great to fight him," said the 32-year-old. "I have a very high opinion of him."
