The "Hitman" will have all of Manchester on his side at the MEN Arena, but IBF holder Tszyu packs a formidable punch and has lost only once in a distinguished career.
Can underdog Hatton overturn the odds and become Britain's next world champion?
Here, a selection of experts - some of them BBC Sport users - give their predictions for the fight.
MIGUEL COTTO - WBO light welterweight champion
It is a one-sided fight. Kostya Tszyu should win easily before the seventh round.
He's too strong and has too much experience. Tszyu has also fought a higher calibre of opposition.
AMIR KHAN - Olympic lightweight silver medallist
Tszyu will really go to knock him out in the first four or five rounds, but I just wonder whether Tszyu can take being hurt in the body.
I think it will go the distance, and Hatton will win on points.
TERRY MARSH - Ex-IBF light welterweight champion
Hatton will have to keep his chin down, elbows tucked in, wear the guy down and try to come on strong in the later rounds.
But as much as he may want to force the fight because of Tszyu's age, he may actually struggle himself at the weight. I'd have to go with Tszyu.
ROGER MAYWEATHER - Former Tszyu opponent and trainer of light welterweight rival Floyd Mayweather
Tszyu is in a different league. If Hatton comes to him the fight will end early, but if he sits back it will last a bit longer.
Tszyu has ability and punching power - and he's going to spank him.
JUNIOR WITTER - European light welterweight champion
I don't think Hatton has got enough skill to outbox him, or enough power to stop him, and I think he is too easy to hit.
He's stepping in with someone so sharp and accurate and I just don't think Hatton has got a chance.
RICHIE WOODHALL - Ex-WBC super middleweight champion
Ricky Hatton has a chance. The crowd will be right behind him and anything is possible in a big fight like this.
The way their styles mix gives Ricky hope because he will have a target to hit. But, at a push, I favour Kostya Tszyu - his skills are amazing.
WAYNE MCCULLOUGH - Former WBC bantamweight champion
Tszyu's only loss was against Vince Phillips. In that fight, Phillips got close to Tszyu and got the stoppage win. Hatton needs to get close.
He needs to keep his left hand up to avoid Tszyu's thunderous right hook. Hatton wins the fight by late stoppage or points.
MICKEY ROURKE - Hollywood actor and former boxing pro
I'm a Ricky Hatton fan but he's going to have his hands full when he meets Tszyu I think.
Kostya's levelling out and Ricky's coming up. It's going to be a real tough fight - too close to call. I wouldn't bet on that one.
ALEX TRICKETT - BBC Sport boxing writer
OK - this may be heart over head time, but I believe Hatton has a chance of beating the great Tszyu.
There is also a very real chance that he may get stopped early by knockout or on cuts.
But if he can avoid serious harm, I take the Hitman to do Britain proud on points.
BEN DIRS - BBC Sport boxing writer
Tszyu has demolished some seriously good opponents and his win over Sharmba Mitchell after almost two years off was shocking in its efficiency.
When tested, Hatton has shown he is a multi-dimensional fighter - but I suspect Tszyu has even more dimensions and will overpower him in the later rounds.
MANC WOLF - BBC Sport user
Ricky will stop him late or on points. Tszyu has been built up as a monster, but Mitchell was shot to pieces and Ricky would have dealt with him in the same way.
I'm not knocking Tszyu because he is obviously class, but he has lost before so it's not like he's the second coming.
Ricky would give anyone out there a fight and I think he can do it on Saturday.
FORESTMAN - BBC Sport user
One of the biggest fights held on these shores.
It will be a highly-charged night and Hatton will do us proud over 12 rounds - expect some worrying moments.
THE_REAL_DEAL - BBC Sport user
I can't wait and would love to see Hatton win by KO or TKO but I feel he hasn't got enough to trouble Tszyu.
I think Hatton will come at him, but I can see Tszyu riding Hatton's shots on the inside and countering with short hooks.
Tszyu is so cool and calculated, he doesn't waste much energy on wild shots so I think, with the way Ricky cuts, the later the fight goes the more Tszyu will be favourite.
