Monshipour holds on to WBA title
Mahyar Monshipour
Monshipour ended his opponent's hopes in the sixth round
France's Mahyar Monshipour retained his WBA super bantamweight title by knocking out Japanese rival Shigeru Nakazato in the sixth round.

Nakazato was in trouble at the end of the fourth when Monshipour landed a flurry of punches but the Japanese came back with some big hits.

But Monshipour floored Nakazato with a right cross to the chin in the sixth, causing the referee to stop the fight.

It was the Iranian-born Monshipour's fourth successful defence.

In Panama City, local hero Roberto Vasquez scored a 10th-round knockout of Beibis Mendoza to claim the vacant WBA light flyweight title.

Vasquez dropped Mendoza twice in round 10, the second time for the count.
