Johnny Nelson successfully defended his WBO cruiserweight crown on Saturday after a split decision against Italian fighter Vincenzo Cantatore.
Nelson, 38, has been a professional since 1986
But the decision was booed by much of the partisan crowd in Rome.
As a result of his win, Nelson will now face Enzo Maccarinelli, who posted a first-round victory on the same card against Germany's Marco Heinichen.
Nelson, whose win was the 13th successful defence of his title, will face Maccarinelli within six months.
It was an easy win for Welshman Maccarinelli.
He had Heinichen down on the canvas in an instant and, when the German again hit the floor, under a barrage of blows from WBU champion Maccarinelli, the fight was effectively over.
