Japan's Katsunari Takayama scored a unanimous decision over champion Isaac Bustos of Mexico in Osaka on Monday to capture the WBC strawweight title.
Takayama improved to 15-1 with the victory, including seven knockouts.
Bustos, who was defending his title for the first time, dropped to 24 wins (13 KOs), seven losses and three draws.
Takayama becomes Japan's third world champion after WBA strawweight titlist Yutaka Niida and WBC super flyweight champion Katsushige Kawashima.
