Floyd Mayweather said he had "no respect" for Arturo Gatti at the official announcement of their WBC light welterweight clash on 25 June.
Mayweather, angered by Gatti's no-show in New York, called the champion a "bum" and said he would be "easy work".
Mayweather said: "Arturo Gatti is afraid of Floyd Mayweather. If he rushes, he'll get knocked out. If he tries to box, he'll get punished.
"He's nothing but a stepping stone. I'm an A-grade fighter and he is a C."
The unbeaten Mayweather, a former super feather and lightweight world champion, said IBF champion Kostya Tszyu was his ultimate target.
And he also took a swipe at his father, Floyd Mayweather Senior, who trains former six-weight world champion Oscar de la Hoya.
"I am willing to test my dad's training skills against my boxing skills by fighting Oscar. He says he is the world's best trainer. I say I have the world's best trainer (his uncle Roger).
"I'm looking forward to fighting Kostya Tszyu. I respect Tszyu. He's earned it. I have none for Arturo."
