Sprott falters in title challenge
Michael Sprott
Sprott proved too defensive from the outset of his bout
Michael Sprott failed in his challenge aganst European heavyweight champion Paolo Vidoz of Italy on Saturday on a unanimous points decision.

The 29-year-old from Reading was outscored by one judge 117-113 and 117-112 by the other two judges.

He was too defensive from the outset of the bout in Oldenburg. He rallied late on but it was not enough.

"It was a tough fight and a poor performance from me. I let myself down, that is all I can say," Sprott said.

"He beat me fair and square. I didn't throw enough punches and my jab wasn't effective. I was just standing in front of him.

"It is very strange but it happens in boxing. I will bounce back."
