Japan's Niida reigns again
Yutaka Niida lands a left-handed punch on Noel Arambulet

Former champion Yutaka Niida reclaimed the WBA strawweight title with a unanimous decision over Noel Arambulet.

A year ago, the Japanese fighter lost his first challenge for his old crown on a split decision to Arambulet.

But the Venezuelan was stripped of his title on Friday when he failed to make the weight, and it would have remained vacant if he had won or drawn.

Niida first held the title in August 2001 but never defended it. He improved to 16 wins, one loss and three draws.

Arambulet became the champion in October 1999 beating Joma Gamboa of the Philippines before losing it in August 2000, again because of weight problems.

He became the champion again in July 2002 beating Keitaro Hoshino of Japan.

Arambulet, 29, saw his record reduced to 20 wins, including 10 KOs, against three defeats, one draw and one no contest.
