Title returns to Ruiz
John Ruiz
Ruiz lost on points to Jones
The WBA has announced that John Ruiz is their heavyweight champion.

Ruiz lost his title last March in Las vegas as Roy Jones Jr became the first former middleweight champion since 1897 to capture a heavyweight crown.

But Jones has indicated he is not prepared to fight Ruiz again despite him being the mandatory challenger.

Jones is now expected to continue as a light-heavyweight and could face Antonio Tarver again later this year.

He took Tarver's WBC title on a controversial majority decision last November.

There is also speculation that Jones may fight the world's leading middlewight Bernard Hopkins.

Ruiz defeated Hasim Rahman to claim the interim WBA heavyweight title by a unanimous points decision in Atlantic City in December.
