Easy win for Sinclair

Neil Sinclair retained his British welterweight title for the second time with a second-round victory over Londoner Paul Knights in Belfast on Saturday night.

Knights, a late challenger, had no answer to the power punching and speed of the champion at the compact Maysfield Leisure Centre.

Sinclair picked up a cut on the side of the left eye early in the opening round following an accidental clash of heads.

But fighting in his home town for the first time in four years, Sinclair went to work in the second round with a series of wicked left hooks that had Knights wobbling.

And although the Londonder's corner threw in the towel on the blindside of referee Terry O'Connor, the fight continued.

However, it was all too brief as another barrage of lefts and rights had Knights reeling and the referee called a halt after one minute and 17 seconds of round two.

The result was expected, particularly as Knights only took up the challenge at a week's notice.

Promoter Frank Warren is now planning another big fight night in Belfast in Feburary when he hopes to line up Sinclair with a crack at the World welterweight title.
