Larios races to WBC title
Oscar Larios claimed the WBC super-bantamweight title when he stopped the previously unbeaten Willie Jorrin in the first round of their bout in California.

A right uppercut from the Mexican less than 90 seconds into the fight in Sacramento floored Jorrin.

Jorrin beat the count but could not withstand a subsequent flurry of blows from his opponent and referee James Jen Kin stepped in.

Maybe he didn't think I'd come out and pressure him that way

The contest was a rematch of their title fight in January last year when Jorrin won by virtue of a narrow and controversial unanimous decision.

Larios, has lost just one of his 46 fights with 33 knockouts and three ties.

"My plan was to pressure him from the opening bell, and maybe knock him out by the eighth round," said Larios.

"Maybe he didn't think I'd come out and pressure him that way.

"I knew from the last fight that when you pressure him, he didn't know what to do."

Jorrin felt that the referee had intervened too soon.

"It was a flash knockdown, but I was okay," said the American.

Larios plans to defend his title for the first time next month although no opponent has yet been confirmed.
