Record receipts for Lewis-Tyson
Lewis will box in front of a sell-out crowd
The long-awaited heavyweight showdown between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in Memphis is a record-breaking sell-out.
All 19,185 tickets have been sold for the 8 June match-up between WBC, IBF and IBO title holder Lewis and former undisputed world champion Tyson. Ticket sales have produced a record gross gate of $23,026,042 (£15,739,971). The Lewis-Tyson receipts shatter the previous mark of $16,860,300 (£11,526,444). That was set in November 1999, when 17,078 saw Lewis-Holyfield II at the Thomas & Mack Arena in Las Vegas. Ringside seats for next month's contest were priced from $2,500 (£1,728), with the cheapest tickets costing $250 (£173). |
