Lewis v Rahman: Round-by-round
Rahman fell to a big right hand from Lewis in round four
Round-by-round action from the Las Vegas rematch between Lennox Lewis and Hasim Rahman.
Build-up: Britain's Lennox Lewis hopes to avenge his loss to American Hasim Rahman in Las Vegas. The former world champion suffered a shock defeat to Rahman in April, but has a chance to regain his belts at the Mandalay Bay Hotel. He has been made to wait by a sequence of exhilarating fights on the undercard. Compatriot Howard Eastman lost his WBA title bid to William Joppy, while Henry Akinwande was knocked out in the last round by Oliver McCall. Entrance: Lennox Lewis enters the ring to the soulful tunes of James Brown. He looks composed and determined and awaits the champion. Hasim Rahman is welcomed by a capacity crowd at the Mandalay Bay Hotel. He also looks up for the challenge. There is a noisy British presence in the crowd for this 12-round fight, which will be refereed by Joe Cortez.
Round one: A cagey opening exchange from two well-trained fighters. Rahman tries to get in close but Lewis keeps him at bay with snappy jabs and opens up a small cut over the American's left eye. The Briton is wearing simple white trunks, while Rahman sports a loud stars and stripes pattern on his shorts. Round two: Lewis lands a heavy left hook midway through the round and continues to work well behind his jab. His left hand is low in defence, however, and that is a worrying sign. Rahman still has the look of a confident fighter, but may have lost the first two rounds. Round three: Lennox connects with more heavy blows and is frustrating the "Rock" with his tactics. He has the American in trouble for the first time after a thundering left-right combination. Rahman is beginning to look disorganised and boisterous British fans are enjoying the spectacle. Round four: Lennox sets up Rahman with a left jab and lands a huge right hook to knock the American to the canvas. Rahman tries to get up but stumbles and is unable to answer referee Cortez's count. Lewis has regained the WBC and IBF heavweight titles in tremendous style. His knockout punch must surely rank among the best he has ever thrown.
