Harrison announces new fight date
![]() Harrison and McCafferty are set for battle in Newcastle
Audley Harrison has rescheduled his second professional fight for 22 September.
A cracked rib had forced the Olympic super heavyweight gold medallist to postpone his original bout with Derek McCafferty at the Liverpool Olympia on 14 July. But Harrison's official website confirmed the new fight will now take place in Newcastle in September, live on the BBC. "It has always been my intention to take the show on the road," said Harrison. "I'm really pleased to be fighting in Newcastle, in front of such great sports fans." Tougher challenge Harrison suffered the injury in training in June and a scan confirmed a fracture. In his first fight, Harrison was criticised for an easy victory in his first fight in May, stopping Florida journeyman Michael Middleton in the first round. Harrison then lined up Aberdeen-born McCafferty, who was considered tougher opposition. The 6ft 3in underdog has previously gone the distance with recent British title contender Mark Potter and former world amateur champion Georgi Kandelaki, both over eight rounds, but has lost three of his five professional fights.
