Hamed outclassed in Vegas

All the action as it happened in Las Vegas where Naseem Hamed loses his unbeaten record to Mexican sensation Marco Antonio Barrera.

The judges scorecards read 115-112 116-111 115-112 to Marco Antonio Barrera who is crowned the International Boxing Organisation Featherweight champion.

Round twelve

Joe Cortez deducts a point from Barrera for rough tactics.

That is Hamed's only success and he seems to know he is beaten at the final bell after taking more punishment.

Round eleven

Barrera totally dominates the first half of the round, hitting Hamed at will with every punch in the book.

Hamed is completely at a loss by the end, definitely needing a knockout to win.

Round ten

Barrera lands another solid right hand at the start of the round.

Hamed rallies back to at least earn a share of the round, but his camp seem very concerned.

Round nine

Both men land fabulous simultaneous left hooks and Barrera follows up with a series of big punches which have Hamed off balance and nearly falling to the floor.

Round eight

Hamed is rocked very badly by a straight right hand and also a Barrera left.

Wayne McCullough at ringside has Barrera ahead by two points.

Round seven

Hamed lands his best shot of the fight, a left hook, but Barrera simply sneers at him.

It is a better round for Hamed, but he may well have lost it in the last minute, having to swallow a significant number of jabs.

Round six

Hamed starts the round in the orthodox stance, switching from his natural southpaw style.

It is another round that Hamed loses and he changes back to his southpaw style after little success.

Round five

Contrary to all expectations, Barrera is fighting on the retreat and is picking off Hamed with the jab.

Hamed's trainer Emanuel Steward tell Hamed at the end of the round that he is losing the fight in a big way.

Round four

Barrera rocks Hamed badly with a series of punches in the corner.

So far, Hamed has looked very easy to hit and is struggling to cope with his opponent's ring savvy.

Round three

Hamed gets his jab going, but still walks into three or four powerpunches which are bound to take an effect in the later rounds.

Round two

After Hamed misses with a big uppercut, the fighters fall to the ground, with Barrera clearly angry with his opponent.

Barrera shows he has not lost his composure by landing a solid right and taking the round.

Round one

Barrera lands the first solid punches of the fight, rocking Hamed with a series of hooks and crosses.

The Mexican ends the round with a series of hard jabs which knock Hamed off balance and clearly win the round.

Hamed's ring entrance is delayed because the Sheffield man has a problem with his right boxing glove.

The undefeated featherweight finally makes his much vaunted entrance in a blaze of tickertape and bright lights.

He is then flown to the ring on a metal ring.

Some 2000 British fans are in attendance at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
