Toney breezes through
James Toney
James Toney made a successful return
James Toney hinted that his world class exile could soon be over, after a comfortable win over Saul Montana.

A huge left hook at 2:26 of the second round ended proceedings and means that Toney remains on course for an attempt at a third world title.

The former middleweight and super-middleweight champion is scheduled to fight International Boxing Federation Cruiserweight champion Vassily Jirov on 7 July.

But before that, he had to deal with 30-year-old Montana, who writhed in pain and never threatened to rise as referee Frank Garza of Lincoln Park finished the 10-count.

Reunion

It was Toney's first fight in his home town for six years and he takes his record to 61 wins, four defeats and two draws with 39 KOs.

The fight also marked the official reunion of Toney, 32, and former manager Jackie Kallen.

"I felt pretty good," said Toney, who plays Joe Frazier - a boxing and speaking role - in an upcoming movie about Muhammad Ali.

"I've been doing the movies and trying to train at the same time, so it was kind of hard. And I've had a couple of injuries along the way."
