Merciless England kept their Grand Slam bandwagon on track - but only after they were given a scare by a rejuvenated France side. After trailing at half-time, England produced a brilliant second-half display to claim a record win over the Gallic visitors.

Clive Woodward's side were given a first-half warning as the visitors pushed his side all the way in the first 40 minutes. But a dominant second half performance gave England a resounding victory.

England produced a measured and highly professional performance at the Millennium Stadium. Wales started by taking the game to their visitors, but after early pressure, England clinically slayed the Welsh dragon.

Rob Henderson ensured his side a winning start with a hat-trick of tries. A committed Italian XV started well and battled to the end, but Ireland dug deep and gained a well-earned victory.

France 16-6 Scotland
Scotland fail to take advantage of a poor French performance in Paris. Phillipe Bernat-Salles scored the only try of the match, giving France victory on the opening weekend of the tournament.
