Collins shuns sprint double
Kim Collins
New 100m world champion Kim Collins has pulled out of the 200m in Paris.

Collins, who won bronze in the 200m at the Worlds in Edmonton, decided to withdraw because he had not run enough races over the distance this season.

"I scratched from the 200m because I haven't run many this year," said the St Kitts & Nevis star. "I don't think that is good enough preparation."

World and Olympic champion Konstadinos Kederis has also pulled out with a thigh injury.

The prospect of seeing two key rivals ruled out will be a boost to Britain's Christian Malcolm.

Malcolm has shaken off the hamstring injury problems which dogged him last year and insists he is right back in form going into Wednesday's heats.

People say it is about time I won a big one and I feel quietly confident

"At the moment my confidence is sky-high - it has come back," said Malcolm, who won the 200m at the London Grand Prix earlier this month in a time of 20.25 seconds.

"I felt last year that if I was 100% I would have got a big medal at the Commonwealth Games and then this would have been a big season for me, but having dropped a level I have had to get myself back up again.

"I am surprised by how good shape I am in. People say it is about time I won a big one and I feel quietly confident."

Collins, meanwhile, will compete for a $500,000 first prize in the 100m at the Moscow Challenge on 20 September, according to the organisers.

Word record holder Tim Montgomery is also set to run at the meeting, which could mark the sprint comeback of Montgomery's girlfriend Marion Jones.
