After a slow first 400m, the Kenyan-born Dane took the lead with around 250m to go and never looked like being overtaken.

The three-times world champion came home first in a time of 1min 47.25secs.

A fast-finishing Andre Bucher from Switzerland was second, with home favourite Nils Schumann, the Olympic champion, taking the bronze.
