Jackson claims fourth Euro gold
Colin Jackson on his way to gold in Munich
Jackson romped home in a time of 13.11 seconds

Colin Jackson stormed to a fourth straight European Championships 110m hurdles victory to complete a quickfire golden double for Britain in Munich on Saturday.

The 35-year-old Welshman triumphed just minutes after triple jumper Ashia Hansen had snatched victory with her final effort to take Britain's gold medal tally to five.

Jackson became the second Brit to win four European titles in a row joining Steve Backley who achieved the feat in the javelin on Friday.

I'm really pleased - to have four European titles to your name is an amazing achievement

Jackson, however, is the first athlete to claim four successive European crowns for the same track event.

The double world champion and world record holder, who plans to retire after the world indoor championships next March, recorded his fastest time of the season, 13.11 seconds, to hold off Stanislavs Olijars.

The Latvian was contention until the final hurdle but had to settle for silver in 13.22 seconds, while Poland's Artur Kohutek took the bronze in 13.32.

A jubilant Jackson said: "Before the race I was on the training track and feeling absolutely no pressure whatsoever.

"I was laughing and joking with my coach Malcolm Arnold and not giving a single thought to the the possibility of a fourth European gold medal.

"Malcolm's instructions were to pop over the first hurdle as quickly as possible then do the same at the last.

"I got such a super start I was able to follow his plan to the letter, then it was all pretty straight forward."

Jackson's win makes amends for his disappointment at the Commonwealth Games, where he finished second to become the British athlete with the most medals from major championships.
