Radcliffe set for world challenge
Paula Radcliffe
Radcliffe finished out of the medals at Sydney
Britain's leading distance runner, Paula Radcliffe, is preparing to take on the world half marathon in Mexico on 12 November.

Radcliffe, who won the Bupa Great North Run last week, is extending her season in order to try and claim and end-of-year victory.

"It would be a good way to finish the year off by trying to win a major world title," she said.

"I was told before the Great North Run there was still a vacant place in the team.

"I mentioned to the selectors that I would make my decision after the Great North but unfortunately I picked up a cold. I now feel a lot better and I think I can equip myself well by running at the world championships."

Radcliffe smashed the European record with a time of 67 minutes seven seconds at the north-east's premier athletics event.

"After that performance I feel it would be silly not to try and win the gold medal in the world half marathon," added Radcliffe.

"I will start training tomorrow but most of my preparatory work has already been done."
