Bernice Wilson will 'fight to clear name'

Lincolnshire athlete Bernice Wilson insists she will prove her innocence after testing positive for the banned steroids testosterone and clenbuterol.

Wilson, 27, has been provisionally suspended after failing a drug test at a meeting in Bedford on 12 July.

In a statement a spokesman said: "Bernice was shocked to receive the news of her provisional ban and will be fighting to clear her name.

"She is a conscientious and principled competitor in a sport she loves."

The statement added that Wilson, a semi-finalist over 60m at the 2011 European indoor championships, was "appalled by the practice of doping in athletics" but was unable to comment further because of restrictions requested by her legal representatives.

Under UK Anti-Doping regulations an athlete who tests positive for banned substances has the right to appeal and to request a personal hearing, but if found guilty could face a suspension of up to two years.
