Keith Gerrard set a new Isle of Man record for the 1500 metres on Saturday at a meeting in Tempe, Arizona.

The 24-year-old clocked three minutes and 47.52 seconds at the Sun Angel Classic improving the Manx record he set two years ago by 1.09 seconds.

Gerrard said: "I was looking for a quick run in preparation for the 5,000m race I'm running next weekend, but to get a personal best was a bonus."

The Manx Sports Aid recipient made his senior debut for Great Britain in 2009.

Gerrard, who lined up in the "B" heat, took the lead on the third lap.

After pushing the pace to the home straight, the Manx athlete was pipped at the line by less than half a second, finishing in second place.

Gerrard's next race will see him competing at Mount Sac, Los Angeles, on Friday, 15 April where he hopes to improve his 5,000 metres personal best.
