Loundes & Lee crowned IOM Cross Country champions

Kevin Loundes
Loundes has now won all three rounds of the Manx Gas Cross Country League

Kevin Loundes won Sunday's Isle of Man Cross Country Championships, held at Crossags Farm, near Ramsey.

The 30-year-old finished one minute 12 seconds ahead of Manx Harriers team-mate Andy Barron, with another Harrier, Martin Malone third.

"I'm absolutely delighted to win the title," said Loundes. "I went out hard and maintained my advantage."

The event was also classed as the third round of the Cross Country League after the previous round was cancelled.

The victory means that Loundes has won all three rounds so far, with one remaining.

Jackie Lee
Lee finished third in the 2010 English and British Fell Running Championship

"I really like the course," he said. "It is hilly and the conditions were perfect for cross country running.

"There was an excellent field, so I went out really hard and didn't look back."

Jackie Lee (Manx Fell Runners) won the ladies title, finishing 36 seconds ahead of two Manx Harriers, Rosey Craine and third-placed Ann Cain.

Meanwhile, Sam Brand was crowned the Junior Men's Champion and Ollie Lockley lifted the Under-17 title.

Alex Price and Sosie Cox won the Under-15s event, with William Morris and Katie Astin lifting the Under-13s titles.

David Mullarkey and Emma Bowker were victorious in the Under-11s race with Niall Caley and Charlie Moss taking the Under-9s.

The final race of the Manx cross country season will be held on Sunday 13 February at Ballannette, Lonan.
