Yelling-Higham will lead the British challenge in Portugal

Hayley Yelling-Higham will lead the British challenge when she defends her European Cross Country Championships title in Portugal on 12 December.

The 36-year-old dominated the race in Dublin 12 months ago as the Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad won a total of 12 medals.

Team leader Ian Stewart said: "We've selected a team that includes a mix of youth and experience.

"We're optimistic that we can win even more medals this time around."


Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad:

Senior women: Helen Clitheroe, Louise Damen, Hatti Dean, Gemma Steel, Stephanie Twell, Hayley Yelling-Higham.

Senior men: Mark Draper, Tom Humphries, Ryan McLeod, Phil Nicholls, Frank Tickner, Andy Vernon.

Under-23 women: Imogen Ainsworth, Elspeth Curran, Natalie Gray, Emma Pallant, Emily Pidgeon, Sarah Waldron.

Under-23 men: Nick Goolab, Mitch Goose, Ashley Harrell, Derek Hawkins, Ricky Stevenson, James Wilkinson.
