Taggart told BBC Isle of Man: "The conditions were much better than last year and I was made up to win."

A record number of athletes started and finished the event.

The quickest woman in the running event was Gail Griffiths in a time of 1:28:41, a time that placed her 13th overall.

Meanwhile, George retained his race walk title with a 10-minute winning margin.

He beat Richard Gerrard by 10 minutes 22 seconds with Andy Green completing the top three.

"It's always nice to win but I was after a much quicker time. I will use the performance as an indicator of where I want to be," he said.
