Roger Black walked the first 10 and a half miles to Santon

Former Olympic medal winner Roger Black has praised the community spirit of the Parish Walk at the event's awards ceremony on Wednesday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Black said: "It's a very special event - I am so impressed."

Jock Waddington, who won his third consecutive title, received a hero's welcome on to the stage.

Ladies champion Sue Moore was also given a rapturous round of applause as all 133 finishers received prizes.

Black added: "There is a real community spirit and a real respect for all the finishers. It's a superb event and I would love to come back and try and do it again."

Meanwhile, Terry Hopkins who walked the 10 and a half miles to Santon aided by his guide dog Hudson received the Manx Telecom Merit Award.
