Injured Silnov will miss Worlds

Silnov would have been one of the favourites to win Worlds gold

Olympic high jump champion Andrei Silnov will miss next month's World Athletics Championships in Berlin because of an Achilles injury.

The Russian revealed he would be out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery three weeks ago.

"I'm in a plaster now so my season is over," said the 24-year-old.

Russia's medal hopes had already been hit by the withdrawal of Olympic pole vault silver medallist Evgeny Lukyanenko because of illness.
