Kelly back in Kent to find talent

Kent's double-Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes has been back at her old track trying to find the next star to follow in her footsteps.

Holmes is helping to train athletes at Tonbridge athletics club and told BBC Radio Kent she is keen to encourage as many people as she can.

"When I was running in Tonbridge there were the likes of Stacey Washington and Kelly Laughton-Zimmerman.

"They gave up the sport and that was a real waste of talent," Holmes said.

"I am hoping I can keep people in the sport for as long as possible."

Holmes is working with 18 women athletes as part of a scheme she is backing to try and inspire them to emulate her feat of winning gold at 800m and 1,500m at the Athens Olympics in 2004.

Ejiro Okoro is one of the athletes on the programme and she told BBC Radio Kent she is thrilled to be part of it.

"I saw these girls benefitting slowly and I thought I can benefit from the scheme too.

"Training with the girls here I can see everyone working together," she said.
