Sheffield athlete Becky Lyne hopes to begin full training next month as she recovers from two-and-a-half years of injury problems.
Lyne, who has had a stop-start career since winning European 800m bronze in 2006, broke her wrist a month ago.
The 26-year-old said: "I'll be able to train again properly in the new year and I'm hoping to go to South Africa in January for warm-weather training."
She missed the Beijing Olympics and has lost her access to lottery funding.
The middle-distance runner missed out on this year's Olympic Games and said: "That made me decide to I call it a day for the season, have some rest and plenty of treatment from [physiotherapist] Ali Rose before getting ready for 2009."
She is now aiming for the World Championships in Berlin in August.
