Runner Yelling to quit athletics

Hayley Yelling
Yelling has run at every World Cross Country Championships since 2000

Former European cross-country champion Hayley Yelling has retired following Sunday's European Cross Country Championships in Brussels.

The 34-year-old schoolteacher, who won the title in 2004, finished 19th in her final race.

"I turn 35 in January and I could go on and on," said Yelling, who has never competed at an Olympics.

"But I don't want to be just making teams, I want to be going to championships and doing well."
