Top award for young javelin star

Hollie Arnold
Hollie Arnold is the junior disability world record holder for three events

Paralympic javelin thrower Hollie Arnold has been named as Lincolnshire's Sports Personality of the year.

Hollie, 14, who also won Young Disabled Athlete of the Year, was the youngest member of the Great Britain track and field team at the Beijing Paralympics.

She told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "It's really nice to be recognised.

"When I was younger I just thought of myself as disabled, but now I've been to Beijing and won these awards it means so much to me."

Other athletes who competed in Beijing were also honoured at the ceremony.

Paralympian Rob Welbourn won the Disabled Athlete award, and Olympic swimming finalist Lizzie Simmonds was voted Young Sportswoman of the year.

Golfer Ashton Turner was named Young Sportsman of the Year with rower Emily Turner being crowned Sportswoman of the Year.

Lincolnshire cricket captain Rob Cook was named Sportsman of the Year, with director of cricket Mark Fell lifting the Performance Coach award.
