Charlotte Manning won Jersey's first medal at the 2008 Jeux des Iles when she took silver in the 200m individual medley in the swimming pool.

The 14-year-old swimmer's time of two minutes 32.43 seconds was a personal best.

It is the second Jeux des Iles medal for Manning, who won bronze at the Games last year.

In tennis, Scott Clayton and George Dupays qualified for the quarter-finals by beating Elba 3-0.

But Alyssia Johnson and Octavia Lamb still need another win to qualify for the knockout stage after beating Isle of Wight 3-0.

In table tennis, Jersey gained promotion to the top flight for next year's games when the team of Luke Walker, Max Tupper and Scott Cassin beat the four islands of Martinique, Mayotte, Korkula and Corsica, all 3-0.

More than 50 young competitors from Jersey are taking part in the annual games for French-speaking islands.

Jersey is represented in seven sports in Guadeloupe.
