Bekele aims to break world record
World and Olympic champion Kenenisa Bekele
Bekele has shown superb form both indoors and outdoors
Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele is hoping to beat the world indoor two-mile record at the Norwich Union Grand Prix in Birmingham on 16 February.

The 25-year-old will attempt to better fellow countryman Haile Gebrselassie's mark of eight minutes 4.69 seconds set in the midlands five years ago.

Bekele, the Olympic and world 10,000m champion, set a world 5,000m indoor record in Birmingham in 2004.

He also posted a 2,000m world best at last year's meeting.

"Obviously I would like to break the world record, but this is a tough one," said Bekele, who won a third successive Great Edinburgh Cross Country title last Saturday.

"Let's hope there is lots of early pace which would help me in making it."
