European Under-23 5,000 metres champion Chris Thompson admitted he was delighted with his surprise win in Sunday's RunLondon 10km road race.
Thompson put in a sprint finish to beat former world cross country silver medallist Luke Kipkosgei and three other world-class Kenyan athletes.
"It was a huge shock beating that opposition," admitted Thompson.
"I knew roughly the best times those boys were packing and, before the race, beating them didn't enter my mind."
Jo Pavey, who was the first woman home in 18th place overall, admitted she was delighted with her display over a longer distance than she is used to.
"I was quite lucky there were some blokes assigned to run beside me which helped," added the Exeter Harrier.
"I still find it quite a long way. But this was a great event enabling people to do a race at night."
Marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe, who was the official race starter, was among the 30,000 running for fun and took 45 minutes to finish.
