Mackie starts Olympic bid
Ian Mackie
Ian Mackie made the transition from the shorter sprints
Ian Mackie launches his bid for a third successive Olympic Games appearance in Sunday's Norwich Union British Grand Prix at Gateshead.

Mackie - now coached by retired world 110metres record-holder Colin Jackson - is bidding for a 400m place in Team GB for the Athens Games.

The 29-year-old Scot successfully made the transition to the one-lap distance last summer.

He faces former world indoor champions Daniel Caines and Jamie Baulch.

Last weekend's European Cup winner, Tim Benjamin, is also in the line-up.

Mackie reached the 100m semi-finals in Atlanta in 1996 and was part of the 4x100m squad in Sydney four years later.
