Olympic shot put champion Yanina Korolchik has been banned for two years after failing a drugs test.

International athletics' governing body IAAF confirmed the news on Tuesday

Korolchik returned a positive test for the steroid clenbuterol, an asthma treatment which promotes muscle growth, during a meeting in Germany on 15 June.

"We received confirmation of the ban from the Belarus Athletics Federation," IAAF spokesman Nick Davies said.

Korolchik, 26, won gold at the Sydney Olympics and claimed the world title in Edmonton in 2001.
