Former world junior champion Deji Aliu claimed the scalp of Britain's Dwain Chambers in a fierce 100m clash at the Tsiklitiria Super Grand Prix on Tuesday.
The Nigerian clinched victory in 10.00 seconds with a late surge in the final 10m, Chambers coming home second in a season's best of 10.03.
"Everybody knows I didn't have a great winter's training," said the Briton, who takes on world record holder Tim Montgomery in Oslo on Friday and then Glasgow on Sunday.
"I know I can go faster. It might mean losing again, but I've been down that road before.
"Everything is geared to the World Championships and I am making sure I get there in perfect shape."
Fellow Brit Darren Campbell was not a happy man when told he had finished sixth in Greece.
He confronted the meeting organisers to complain and after an hour of deliberation, the times were amended to place him fourth in 10.16.
"I knew I was higher than that, I even thought I finished third," said the Olympic 200m silver medallist.
"The time is great news. I came here with a best of 10.24, lowered that in my heat and have now run 10.16.
"That's real progress with the British trials coming up next month."
France's former European champion Christine Arron beat world champion Zhanna Block in the women's 100m.
Arron caught Block in the final metres of the race to finish in 11.09 to the Ukrainian's 11.13.
Olympic and World champion Konstadinos Kederis pleased the home crowd by winning the 200m in 20.30sec while Cuba's Aldama Yamile
won the women's triple jump, tying her own personal record and this
season's best of 15.00m.
World champion Felix Sanchex won the 400m hurdles, with Britain's Chris Rawlinson finishing in third place.
The Briton, who won the Spar European Cup 400m hurdles on Saturday, succumbed to the strength of world champion Felix
Sanchez and was also pipped by Jamaican Ian Weakley.
"I think it was a case of the fresher man winning tonight," said Rawlinson, who won the 400m at the Spar European Cup in Florence on Saturday.
"The weekend, when I ran twice in horrific heat, took an awful lot out of me.
"Then the 11 hours of travelling to get here didn't help. Overall I'm happy things are going in the right direction."
