Greene wants drugs inquiry
Olympic 100m champion Maurice Greene has called for an investigation into allegations that prominent US Olympians failed drug tests in the build-up to the 1988 Seoul Games.

Carl Lewis is among the athletes named in more than 30,000 pages of documents released by former US Olympic Committee anti-doping official Dr Wade Exum.

And Greene believes it will damage the image of athletics if the claims are not fully examined.

"Everybody who tested positive should get busted. There shouldn't be any cover-ups," said Greene.

"It is terrible. It is hurting our sport in general. Not just in the United States but in general. It is a bad thing."

According to Exum's documents, Lewis was one of three eventual gold medallists who tested postive for banned stimulants at the 1988 Olympic trials in Indianapolis.

Officials on the current USOC, however, dispute claims that results of drug tests were suppressed.

And Lewis' lawyer Martin Singer said the athlete never took anything with the intent to enhance performance.

Floyd Heard, who trained with Lewis and is said in Exum's documents to have tested positive in 1988 for the same three substances, also dismissed the claims.

"That was 1988. Now it is a big deal because [Exum] got fired and he wants to come up with all these lies," said Heard.
