Jones cruises to victory
Marion Jones
Jones has dominated the Golden League
Action from the IAAF Grand Prix final in Paris.

Men's 100m

Tim Montgomery beat the world record with an astonishing run of 9.78 seconds to win the Grand Prix final in Paris.

He beat Dwain Chambers, who ran a lifetime best 9.87 to equal Linford Christie's British record and finish second.

"I worked all my life for this. I can't believe it," Montgomery said.

Women's 100m

Marion Jones cruised to victory after main rival Zhanna Pintusevich-Block was disqualified for two false starts.

The Ukrainian seemed too anxious to get a good start and clearly jumped the gun on both occasions.

Deprived of her main rival, Jones looked comfortable during the run, powering to the front at the 60m mark and looking in no danger of losing her 16-race unbeaten run.

The American clocked 10.88 seconds to beat Debbie Ferguson of the Bahamas.

Men's 1500m

Hicham El Guerrouj celebrated his 28th birthday by dipping under three minutes 30 seconds for the 28th time in his career.

The world record holder clocked 3:29.27 - but his celebrations at winning the overall title were overshadowed by Montgomery's unexpected performance.

Earlier, Britain's Chris Rawlinson finished eighth in a 400m hurdles final won by Felix Sánchez in an impressive 47.62 seconds.

Japan's Koji Murofushi won the hammer final with a monster throw of 81.14m.

Olympic 5,000m champion Gabriella Szabo of Romania came from third to first in the final 30m to win the women's 3,000m in 8:56.29.

Mexico's Ana Guevara, one of four athletes to share the Golden League jackpot this year, won the women's 400m comfortably in 49.90 seconds ahead of Jamaican Lorraine Fenton.
