Chambers and Radcliffe to lead GB
Paula Radcliffe in action at the Sydney Olympics
Radcliffe is running both the 5,000m and 10,000m
Dwain Chambers and Paula Radcliffe have been named as captains of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for next month's European Championships.

Chambers is competing in the 100m while Radcliffe is doubling up for both 5,000m and 10,000m for the Munich event, which runs from 6-11 August.

"I enjoyed being Norwich Union GB men's team captain at the European Cup in Annecy and hopefully I can lead by example in Munich," said Chambers.

Radcliffe added: "The women's team is becoming stronger each year and the World Juniors results in Jamaica added weight to our improvement."

On Monday it was announced that Andrew Whiteman will run both the 800m and 1500m in Munich.

Squad finalised

Meanwhile, 4x100m relay squad members Joice Maduaka and Abi Oyepitan will also compete in the individual sprint.

Selectors finalised their squad for the championships by adding another 14 names to their list of competitors.

The additions are athletes who have achieved either the British or European qualifying standards since the initial squad announcement was made last week.

"In all cases we have picked athletes who are showing good current form and the selectors feel are capable of performing well in Munich," said UK Athletics performance director Max Jones.
