Lewis-Francis still in relay squad
Mark Lewis-Francis
Lewis-Francis is nursing a hamstring problem
Sprinter Mark Lewis-Francis has not quit Britain's 4x100m relay squad for the summer ahead.

Nineteen-year-old Lewis-Francis was reported to have left the team last week after complaining that he was not able to run the leg he wanted.

But a spokeswoman for UK Athletics told BBC Sport Online on Wednesday that Lewis-Francis remained an integral part of the team.

As a junior, the Birchfield Harrier was used to running the anchor leg in relays. In the senior squad that role is generally taken by Dwain Chambers.

Lewis-Francis is believed to be reluctant to run the bends on a relay becuase he is nursing a hamstring injury.

His priorities remain the 100m at the Commonwealth Games and European Championships.

Earlier Lewis-Francis had received the full backing of British team-mate Darren Campbell.

Reigning European 100m champion Campbell said: "We don't want to turn our backs on him. That might be alright for the Americans, but that's not how we work. We have to be a team.

"I see a lot of myself in Mark. I used to think I was always right and never listened to anyone else. Mark's not stupid - he's an intelligent lad. If he has a problem we have to listen.

"He's only young and he's coming from a situation where he used to be a big fish and now he's a small fish. It just needs to be handled in the right way."
