Mayock to lead GB in Vienna
John Mayock hopes ot be heading the field in the 3000m
Mayock (centre) will captain Britian for the second time
Middle-distance runner John Mayock will captain the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team at this weekend's European Indoor Championships in Vienna, Austria.

Mayock, who competes in the 3,000m, has been in superb form this winter, setting UK records at 3,000m and two miles.

The Yorkshireman, bidding to regain the title he won in 1998, hopes to provide the same captain's example as on the last occasion he led the team.

"I feel privileged to be asked to be captain of the Norwich Union GB Team for the second time," he said.

"I was captain at the European Indoors in Ghent two years ago where I won a medal and I am certainly hoping to do so again.

"I'm looking forward to the championships. The team is a small one but I think that it is going to be successful one."

Colin Jackson, Jason Gardener, Christian Malcolm, Daniel Caines and Ashia Hansen are all strongly fancied to bring home medals.
