Modahl appeals against ruling

Runner Diane Modahl has confirmed she will continue her fight against the British Athletics Federation.

In December, the High Court in London rejected her claim for compensation over a running suspension following allegations of drug taking.

But on Tuesday, Modahl announced she will appeal against the High Court's ruling, which found in favour of the BAF.

The case centres around a suspension for failing a drugs test.

Accuracy

Modahl had alleged bias on the part of the BAF disciplinary committee which imposed the four-year ban in December 1994, six months after urine tests in Lisbon allegedly showed a high level of testosterone.

An independent appeal panel lifted the ban in July 1995 after doubt was cast on the accuracy of the tests.

Modahl has now decided to take her case to the Court of Appeal.

The Olympic athlete and her husband Vicente said they have so far spent £1m in bringing the action.
