Isle of Man teenager Aalin George has been named Archery GB's Young Archer of the Year for 2010.

The 14-year-old was presented with the award by double Commonwealth Games gold medallist Duncan Busby at the National Indoor Championships in Telford.

"To win this award is a great honour and a brilliant way to end my year," she told BBC Isle of Man.

Her weekend got even better when she won the silver medal at the Junior National Championships.

George fought a hard battle with her fellow GB squad member Daisy Clarke, losing out on the gold medal by a single point.

Both girls scores were higher than the under-18 competition and therefore Clarke was declared the National Champion with George taking silver.

"I was really happy with my performance and I am looking forward to even better results in 2011 with more selections to represent both the Isle of Man and Great Britain," she said.

"I would really like to thank everyone who has supported and guided me this year. I consider it a privilege to have represented both the Isle of Man and Great Britain."

Isle of Man coach Peter Mumford told BBC Isle of Man: "I'm delighted but not shocked. Aalin has had a tremendous year and I am sure she will go from strength to strength.

"She looks certain to be part of the GB team for the World Championships in Poland next year," he added.

Archery GB spokesman Peter Jones said: "The award reflects a fantastic year for Aalin. She has the potential to go very far in the sport and a fantastic temperament."

Meanwhile, Aalin's younger sister, also shooting compound, added to the family's day by winning a silver medal in the under-12 competition whilst older sister Charlotte finish seventh in the senior recurve competition.

The 18-year-old reached the quarter-finals, where she lost to British Olympic archer Naomi Folkard.

To round off a great weekend for Manx archery, Sarah Rigby won a bronze medal in the senior ladies compound.

Rigby knocked out the reigning National Indoor Champion and the current World Outdoor Champion on her way to the semi-finals, where she was narrowly beaten by eventual winner Lucy Holderness.

The Commonwealth Games athlete used all her experience to hit the ten ring in a tense shoot-out against Claudine Jennings to claim the bronze.

GB spokesman, Jones added: "It was a fantastic weekend for Manx archery which is clearly thriving."
