Rise to the challenge for Sport Relief

Former England rugby captain Bill Beaumont

Former England rugby captain Bill Beaumont is expecting a tight Six Nations this year and has picked out Scotland as potential winners.

"I don't think anyone will win the Grand Slam this year," said Beaumont.

"It will be very close, a lot of sides are rebuilding and have got new coaches. But look out for Scotland, they will be dark horses.

"They have a very settled team, they are very organised and, crucially, they have got England and France at home."

Beaumont, who led England to the 1980 Grand Slam, was speaking at a special recording of A Question of Sport Relief and is urging everyone to get involved in the Sport Relief charity event.

"I will be doing my bit for Sport Relief and it would be great to get as many rugby fans as possible involved with the event," said Beaumont, who captained England 22 times and also skippered the British & Irish Lions in South Africa in 1980.

"Scotland will be looking to build on their success at the World Cup but obviously as an Englishman I want England to win.

Sign up for the Sport Relief Mile on March 16

"I am quietly confident England can do well but it's just a fantastic tournament, it's a very special part of the sporting calendar.

"I think the tournament will see lots of new faces coming on the scene, there will be a lot of new superstars and that's exactly what the game needs.

"From England's point of view, they have got a lot of good young talent, the likes of Danny Cipriani, but it's a question of managing that talent though the tournament.

"I think James Haskell is one to look out for in this tournament, he was probably unlucky to miss out on the World Cup and is definitely a star of the future.

"I think there will be even more interest in this year's tournament after the World Cup and I can't wait for it to get started.

"But I would urge everyone to sign up for a Sport Relief Mile, there are plenty of them all over the UK so get involved and sign up now."
