Rusedski targets Davis Cup
Greg Rusedski
Rusedski suffered a five-set defeat
Greg Rusedski says he hopes to be back to full fitness for next month's Davis Cup clash in Morocco.

The British number two put his first-round exit at the US Open to Frenchman Gregory Carraz down to his injury problems earlier in the year.

Great Britain travel to the north African country on 19 September and Rusedski is confident he can bounce back from Monday night's five-set defeat.

"I hadn't played a five-set match since my comeback and the hard courts are quite difficult," admitted Rusedski after his defeat.

"This surface is pretty rough on the body and when you miss nine months it's just a question of getting stronger again.

"But the grass and clay courts are a lot easier and I should be fine for Morocco - I'm looking forward to that.

"I'm undefeated on clay in Davis Cup after our win in Ecuador so it would be nice to continue that.

"I think it's so important that we come out of the first day at least level, then with Tim (Henman) and my own doubles record, being undefeated so far, that would put us in good stead."

Rusedski twice came from a set down to level matters with Carraz, but he was unable to complete his victory.

And he conceded that he still needs to recapture some of his old serving magic if he is to make it back into the big time.

"I start to serve at about 130 mph and I'm serving probably about 105 or 110 on average," added the 28-year-old.

"If you take that away from any player, whether it's a Roddick, whether it's a Sampras, it makes it mentally and physically much more difficult for yourself.

"If I get that area back on track, it will make life a lot more enjoyable for me," he said.
