Murray slipped three places to 12th in the world rankings
Andy Murray has dropped out of the world top 10 after his first-round defeat at the Australian Open by eventual finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The Scot has slipped from ninth to 12th, while Tsonga, who lost to Novak Djokovic in Sunday's final has risen into the top 20 for the first time.

The Frenchman rose 20 places to number 18 following his four-set defeat.

In the women's rankings beaten finalist Ana Ivanovic moves up a place to second ahead of Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Champion Maria Sharapova stays in fifth place, with Justine Henin remaining number one and semi-finalist Jelena Jankovic still fourth.

Swiss Roger Federer held on to his number one ranking despite losing to third seed Djokovic in the semi-finals as the men's top six remained unchanged.

I am sure Federer is going to come back in a big style

Novak Djokovic
The Serb's victory over Federer - his second in their last three meetings - has led to speculation that men's tennis might be poised for a change at the top.

But Djokovic said after his victory in the final that it was premature to see Federer as a declining force.

"It's not possible that only one tournament will change history," Djokovic said.

"I played amazing tennis here, so I think I absolutely deserved to win, even against him in the semi-finals.

"You know, he accepted it in the right way. I am sure he is going to come back in a big style, of course.

"He's still planning to be the best player in the world, so we all know how good he is. We are going to see a lot of him this year."
