Murray to open against Lapentti

Andy Murray will face Nicolas Lapentti in the first round of Wimbledon - if the British number one is fully recovered from a wrist injury in time.

The 20-year-old, seeded eighth, has been sidelined since 15 May and will make a final decision on Monday.

Fellow Briton Tim Henman will play former world number one Carlos Moya and could meet Murray in round three.

Roger Federer opens against Russia's Teimuraz Gabashvili, while Amelie Mauresmo plays Jamea Jackson of the US.

In other matches, second seed Rafael Nadal plays Mardy Fish, third seed Andy Roddick is up against fellow American Justin Gimelstob, and 2002 champion Lleyton Hewitt takes on Briton Richard Bloomfield.

Women's top seed Justine Henin will begin against Argentine qualifier Jorgelina Cravero, second seed Maria Sharapova meets Yung-Jan Chan of Chinese Taipei, and former champion Serena Williams plays Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain.

Murray and Lapentti have never played before but the Scot would expect to beat the world number 63 from Ecuador, although the fitness situation leaves a major question mark over the Scot.

Lapentti reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2002 but his recent form has been poor and he has won just three tour matches this year.

Moya holds a 5-4 lead over Henman in career meetings but they have not played since 2003, and never on grass.

The Spaniard showed he can play on the surface by beating Nadal 4-6 6-1 10-5 - the last set a champions tie-break - in an exhibition match on Friday.

Murray and Henman could potentially meet in round three, with the winner on course for a quarter-final against Rodddick and a semi-final against Federer further down the line.

British number three Alex Bogdanovic will meet Chris Guccione of Australia in the opening round.

As far as the British women go, number one Katie O'Brien will play Germany's world number 106, Sandra Kloesel, Anne Keothavong faces third seed Jelena Jankovic, and Naomi Cavaday takes on Martina Hingis.

Melanie South, who reached the second round at Eastbourne, will be hopeful of an upset against Japan's 26th seed Ai Sugiyama, while Elena Baltacha plays Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia.
